This project involved the repair and refurbishment of Boveney Boat Rollers (Boveney Lock), a narrow channel for the passage of canoes etc. Boveney is located on the River Thames, approximately two miles upstream of Windsor and Eton.
The aim of the project was to improve its operational durability and to improve the boat roller channel conditions for the passage of eels.
The works involved:
- Lowering the crest of the boat roller channel
- Replacement of the boat rollers
- Refurbishment of the facing to the approach and channel walls
- Repairs to the pontoons
- Installation of an elver pass to improve eel passage
The project included environmental considerations such as timing works outside the bird nesting/fish spawning seasons and minimising silt and dust.
