Improving flood defence for Barking and Dagenham
The Kingsbridge industrial estate frontages form part of the flood defence system for the Barking and Dagenham embayment and are located on the East bank of the Barking Creek (River Roding), upstream of the Barking Barrier and down stream of the River Roding.
The works consist of 267m of steel sheet piled wall capped with a concrete capping beam. At either end of the contract the sheet piles are fix with tendon anchors, 45m on the West end and 14m at the East end.
Located on the site is a section of Japanese knotweed, through which we piled a section of the works.
Innovative thinking throughout the contract has led to considerable savings in the reduction of muck away to landfill, by recycling and processing material on site with a power screen.
The site was registered for the considerate constructors’ scheme and following 2 audits attained a score of 36.5 out of 40, which qualifies the project for a national award.
