The contract for the new lifeboat station was secured under competitive tender as a traditonal contract. However all bids exceeded the clients funding and a Value Engineering exercise was carried out with Client, Architect, QS and Mackley to find ways of making savings. These were achieved through the reduction of risks, changes to the specifications and details to improve buildability.
The £1.1m project was constructed on 33metre long piles, over the tidal river with a mooring berth alongside. The Architect designed building includes a small shop, workshop and crew facilities.
