New Shoreham river frontage nearing completion

The creation of a new river frontage at Free Wharf in Shoreham is nearing completion, as part of an enabling works package contract for Wates Residential.

Construction of a new reinforced concrete river wall commenced in May 2020 and the site team has been progressively working their way along the river edge, despite the additional challenge of operating safely throughout the Covid-19 epidemic.

This has seen the team adopt new ways of working in adherence with the Government’s social distancing guidelines and updated site operating procedures set out by the Wates Group to ensure the workforce remains healthy, safe and protected at all times.

The river wall has been constructed behind a new sheet-piled barrier which will double up as a flood defence for the site.

This incorporates ramps and access steps which will eventually lead to a new riverside boardwalk, cast in watertight concrete, for local residents to enjoy.

Works are planned for completion in spring 2021.
