Design Engineer
Based at our Head Office in Small Dole, the Design Engineer is responsible for producing and reviewing temporary and permanent works designs to support construction activities across a range of civil engineering and heritage infrastructure projects. Working closely with site teams, subcontractors, and external designers, the role ensures that proposals are safe, buildable, and compliant with relevant standards. The engineer will contribute to planning, risk assessment, and technical assurance, and will play a key role in integrating works into the overall project methodology.

Initially based at our Portsmouth naval base, the Graduate Site Engineer role is normally an initial step into a career in Civil Engineering and Construction. It is the opportunity to learn from the site experience and gain knowledge and understanding in how work is constructed, organised and controlled. The Senior Engineer and Site Manager are responsible for briefing and overseeing their activities and the Site Engineer must ensure that tasks are explained and checked until a basic and consistent level of competence is achieved. Also required are knowledge of company procedures, health and safety, engineering techniques and specifications.

To work on competitive bids, negotiated contracts and within Frameworks. To be aware of company targets for new work and provide profitable, successful bids. To assist with budget prices if time/capacity permits.

A Skilled Operative will work alongside a Site Foreman and be responsible for the completion of designated tasks on site under the supervision of the Site Foreman, ensuring the works are completed without harm to people, then environment and targeting zero defects.

To coordinate site operational resources across Mackley. Responsible for all recruitment and use of agency labour, including ensuring the adoption of appropriate labour supply agreements as approved by the commercial team. Liaison with the Area Managers to smooth resources and to prioritise based on business need. Maximise use of internal labour, develop staff and work with HR to manage training and operational qualifications. Step in to trouble shoot operational challenges on projects and support the site teams where required.
