Mackley has published a new timelapse video showcasing the RNLI Selsey demolition project carried out earlier this year.
The former lifeboat station was rendered surplus to requirements following completion of a new lifeboat station – with Mackley tasked by the RNLI to demolish and remove the old station, and the jetty from which it was accessed.
The project was divided into two main phases.
Phase one involved the removal of a number of stub and box piles, clearing asbestos from the site, removing scaffolding and isolating the electric supply. This phase also involved clearing the seabed of debris, which involved a team of divers tagging items on the sea-bed in preparation for their removal.
Phase two saw the arrival of a jack-up barge from Southampton. The barge was stationed on site for around one month while the main demolition works took place. Once the demolition was complete, the barge was towed back to Southampton for unloading.
Throughout the project, access had to be maintained at all times for the RNLI, and along the promenade for the general public. The Mackley project team also had to liaise with local fishermen to allow them to operate throughout the works, and with local diving schools to prevent unauthorised diving in the work zone.
The video, produced by Take One Productions, condenses almost three months’ work into just over three minutes of footage.
