Mackley is making good progress on the first phase of a long-term project to provide enhanced protection to Bournemouth beach.

Mackley and Team Van Oord are working in partnership with the environmental conservation company, Pro-Earth, to develop a marine boom specifically for use in fast-flowing water and tidal flows.

Mackley made an important contribution to a challenging engineering project to replace a 4.5km section of pipeline running from under the North Sea up to the North Lincolnshire shoreline.

The environment secretary Liz Truss has praised the new £6m flood defences on Portsea Island’s northern shore following a recent visit to the site.

Flood & Coast 2016, held in Telford last week (23-25 Feb), provided a unique opportunity for the Mackley delegation to discuss innovation and best practice with other professionals from across the flood and coastal erosion risk management (FCERM) community.

The team responsible for delivering the Broomhill Sands Coastal Defence Scheme has been presented with the ‘Innovation Award’ at the 2016 Environment Agency Project Excellence Awards ceremony on 24 February.

Through a combination of sponsorship, exhibiting and speaking at the conference, Mackley will be fully involved at this week’s Flood & Coast 2016 event in Telford.

Working on behalf of the Environment Agency and as part of Team Van Oord*, Mackley has successfully completed a project to improve flow monitoring and fish passage on the River Cray at Crayford in Kent.

Working in partnership with the Environment Agency and as part of Team Van Oord, Mackley assisted with the successful removal of a narrow boat which had become stranded on the River Thames in Oxford.
